We chat with a bunch of busy mums in the lead up to Mother’s Day this year and learn how they balance their busy lives as well as what they love about being a creative mum.
Introduce yourself!
Hi! My name is Alex. I am a Mum to an energetic 15-month-old boy, a fiancee, a tax disputes lawyer, a daughter, niece, aunty and cousin to many many people in NZ I have not been able to see since March 2020, and, of course, grateful friend to Miss Natalia Pye.
When was your first Mother’s Day and what do you remember most about it?
My first Mother’s Day was May 2020. It was tough (thanks ‘Rona) but my boys still found a way to make me feel special, having my favourite flowers and candle delivered to our door.
What would be your ideal Mother’s Day this year?
My ideal Mother’s Day is a day full of cuddles and laughter, no tantrums (a girl can dream!) and an evening with my gorgeous fiance enjoying my favourite food.

What’s your favourite way to wind down at the end of a busy day from being a mum AND an all-around superstar business lady!?
Bath, trashy mag and a glass of wine.
What have been the major changes and challenges of becoming a mum while also balancing a busy work life?
The lack of time (where did it all go!) and the mum and work guilt.
What is your favourite creative pastime to do with your kids?
Last weekend we spent 30 mins running through piles of autumn leaves and crunching the leaves in our hands – there is nothing better than watching them discover all of the small miracles we are surrounded by in this world 🙂
How would you describe your style?
Hmmmm tricky one… pre-baby I would probably describe it as comfortable, yet elegant with pieces that were fairly classic and timeless.
Has this changed since becoming a Mum? If so how?
My clothes now need to be functional, easy to wash but also capable of making me feel glamorous and confident. They also need to account for the change in my body shape since having a baby – many of my pre-baby clothes now make me feel like a failure.
What’s your favourite W+M piece?
I can’t pick one favourite W&M piece – I love them all! They 100% make me feel confident and beautiful. They are so easy to wear and add that pop of colour and excitement I need to get me through these long days.
